Description & Mission

The Mission of the Cohasset Elder Affairs is to offer outstanding programs and services that provide for the physical, social, and emotional needs of our older adults by assisting them to lead independent, stimulating, and self-reliant lives as members of the community. The primary goals of the Cohasset Elder Affairs Department are as follows:
  • Provide education for older adults and families on critical current senior issues
  • Provide outreach services for seniors unable to access the senior center
  • Provide programs that promote healthy life style choices while stimulating the mind and increasing happiness and laughter
  • Foster inter generational programs that will enrich the lives of older adults, families, and children

Serving Health Information Needs for the Elderly (SHINE)

The SHINE Program is a state health insurance assistance program that provides free health insurance information, counseling, and assistance to Massachusetts residents with Medicare and their caregivers. The goal of the program is to assist elders in understanding their Medicare and Massachusetts Health benefits and other health insurance options. The Elder Affairs Office has a SHINE counselor who is trained and certified by the Executive Officer of Elder Affairs in many areas of health insurance, Medigap insurance, HMO, retiree insurance plans, prescription drug programs, Medicaid, Medicare assistance programs, and other programs for people with limited resources.
